BEST SERVED by Cami Kates

At twenty, and nearly a year and a half after her gender confirmation surgery, Nina Vaughn’s life seems to be on track. She’s beautiful, intelligent and working her way toward a degree in law. But when a hot guy starts flirting with her at the cafe she works in, it only reminds her of the complexity of dating as a trans woman. As she’s still feeling the sparks of attraction for the tall, brawny man, a frantic call from her mother pulls her into distress, serving to remind her of the anger she feels for her estranged father.

Trevor Lawrence has made his way back to Seattle to start anew, to get his job back at the Seattle Fire Department, while leaving his failed marriage behind in LA. The last thing he’s ready for is another long-term relationship, or the love that could follow, but when he meets a beautiful young waitress at a cafe, he can’t get her out of his head. When there’s an opportunity to help her, he jumps at the chance, even after she informs him she started her life out as a boy.

The relationship between Trevor and Nina quickly heats up, but the more entangled they become, the more problems and insecurities they’ll face, ones they’ll have to conquer if they want their union to last. Best Served may be read as a standalone (with some crossover with characters from A Girl Like Her).
